The Kananaskis Ski Marathon, aka, the Cookie Race, recently received a $5000 donation from the Estate of Adam Hedinger. Adam was a longtime Foothills Nordic contributor who passed away on May 2, 2016 after a long battle with cancer.
Adam was the Chief of Competition for the Cookie Race for several years. When he wasn’t filling the role as Chief or racing himself, he helped by handing out bibs and cookies, even when his health was failing. Foothills Nordic members remember him fondly commenting on his willingness to help on race day however needed, having fun visiting with skiers of all ages.
Adam made other important contributions to the cross country ski community. He was a controller in Canmore during the 1988 Winter Olympics, the Chief of Control for several World Cups, and newsletter editor for Foothills Nordic for several years. His volunteer contributions were recognized by Cross Country Alberta in 2007 with the Race Organizer of the Year Award.
Foothills Nordic is very grateful for Adam’s generous spirit. He will be remembered at the upcoming Cookie Race on February 24. Please join us at the race as a competitor (sign-up HERE) or as a cheerleader.
