Cross Country Coach Positions (Adult Programs)

Foothills Nordic Ski Club (FNSC) is all about Family, Fun, Excellence and Inclusiveness. We are a Clubby Club that focusses on Nordic skiing and biathlon as sports for life. We are a not for profit, full-service Nordic ski club based in Calgary, Alberta. Incorporated in 1964, FNSC has a long history of organizing and delivering programs geared towards cross-country skiers and biathletes of all ages and performance levels. The Club has more than 1000 members, ranging from Jackrabbits and Biathlon Bears to High Performance athletes and Masters level skiers. With an 11-member volunteer Executive, approximately 70 cross-country and biathlon coaches (both paid and volunteer) and over 200 active volunteers, the Club’s initiatives also include the staging of major events and races in Calgary and the Bow Valley.

Adult Learn to Ski Coaches

FNSC is seeking Cross Country Ski Coaches to assist with delivery of adult programming. These are a casual employment positions based on an hourly wage of $18 to $25/hr, based on qualifications. Adult programming runs on evenings and weekends with the following schedule / position:

The Adult Learn to ski programs run on-snow December to March, with a break for Christmas.

As the coach, you will be leading a group of 10-12 skiers, either skate, classic or both in a 12 week program. The focus is technique improvement for beginner to intermediate skiers. For more information on this program see our Adult Learn to Ski webpage

Coaches will work in pairs to delivery programs on 1, 2 or 3 of the following days:

Qualifications

– Ability to have fun while in the great outdoors, rain, shine or sideways.

– Strong XC technique in both Classic and Skate Styles

– Past instruction experience

– CANSI I or Higher

– NCCP CC or Higher

– Standard First Aid with CPR

Assistant Masters Coach

The Masters program runs from September to March, with a break for Christmas. We start first with dry-land and roller-skiing in the fall, switch to snow when Frozen Thunder opens.

Working with the Lead Masters Coach, you will provide fun fitness/technical sessions for 10-12 skiers. You will also be expected to deliver the program when the Lead Coach is away and/or the group is participating in a non-local race. The Assistant Master Coach will need to be available for three sessions a week:

Qualifications

– Ability to have fun while in the great outdoors, rain, shine or sideways.

– Strong XC technique in both Classic and Skate Styles

– Experience roller-skiing

– Past coaching experience

– CANSI II or Higher

– NCCP L2T or Higher

– Standard First Aid with CPR

-Past Nordic racing experience will be an asset
