I am certain that FNSC has a positive impact on my kids and that it will last in their adult life.
The club has a philosophy of creating whole athletes and thus, sport for life participants. What I value most about the club events is that they not only train athletes but also provide a great community with an active and healthy mindset. Year after year, the club offers opportunities for skiing AND for socializing and sharing outdoor experiences.
This year’s winter season opener at the Lake Louise Early Snow Camp (November 10 to 12) was a great success for the Foothills families. A big group of T1, T2 and LC athletes and their parents were out to catch the first snow tracks of the year. We were treated with good snow and warm temperatures which made the first skiing super sweet.
This was our family’s fifth year attending the Early Season Snow Camp, and it does not get boring; indeed the fun keeps accelerating. The kids say that it is the best camp ever, and as parents, we are enjoying it more and more each year. We cannot keep up with the kids anymore, so we have way more fun ourselves, with less and less parenting. My kids are happy and smiling while skiing with their friends and teammates, they have inspiring and fun coaches to look up to, and they enjoy a weekend of (50km+) skiing adventure.
The Camp would not exist without Foothills Nordic’s dedicated leaders, coaches and volunteers. The club makes it a priority to build a community around the kids. It is not only about training and technique but also continuity and good times with friends and the next step of progressive programs. The club also emphasizes volunteer parent engagement which makes families more connected.
A huge THANKS goes to all the volunteers and coaches for making these events so much fun. Without these parents, this camp would be hard to enjoy so a BIG round of applause to: Lavina G, Maria K, Kimberly I, Whitney S, Scott J, Thian H, Matus C, Mirka N, Blanka, Leanne Y, and Whitney S. (Sorry if I missed anyone else!)
