Over 100 elementary school students at Nellie McClung School tried Cross Country Skiing for the first time this week thanks to the Cross Country Canada and AltaGas-sponsored Ski at School program.
First launched in 2010, with the support of AltaGas, Foothills’ Ski at School program was an instant success. This success led to Cross Country Canada and AltaGas launching Ski at School on a national level in 2016. Foothills Nordic continues to deliver the program in Calgary with eight elementary schools receiving three days of cross-country ski lessons in their own school yards, in 2019. Children are introduced to the sport by certified coaches in a fun environment, building fundamental movement skills and sport-specific skills for skiing.
Dedicated Foothills staff, volunteers and coaches will continue to run programs across Calgary in 2019, reaching 8 schools and nearly 1000 students, grooming trails and teaching the FUNdamentals of skiing, providing school-aged children with access to the lifelong sport of cross-country skiing.
Thank you AltaGas and Cross Country Canada for your generous support!
