A small group of Marion Wooden’s Foothills friends and the current loppet organizing crew, met last Friday to dedicate the Cookie Race soup & cookie tent station as “Marion’s Place” with a large banner with her name and picture. Valerie Setz, who with her late husband, started the Kananaskis Ski Marathon (more affectionately known as the Cookie Race!) in 1978, spoke about Marion’s great contributions to the KSM. Valerie recalled how Marion initiated the first soup tent and the legacy of homemade cookies. Many will recall Marion volunteering at every Cookie Race through to 2014. She will be missed, but all future volunteers and participants will be reminded of Marion as they get their soup and cookies at “Marion’s Place”.
