A great turnout of members elect a new FNSC executive committee at the Club’s 2018 AGM. Colin Norman takes the reins from outgoing president, Michelle Deacon, focusing on continued delivery of excellent programming and reducing the burden of some lead volunteer roles.

It has been an exceptional year of overall club success: we continue to deliver great programs and respond to member needs.  This year saw the addition of post high school programming and the re-introduction of Para-Nordic programs. We continue to develop exceptional athletes with many on provincial and national (development) teams and meeting international points benchmarks, as well as growing Active for Life participation through Teen Ski recreational programming (following Track Attack). We are committed to investing in the continuous training and development of our great coaching assets (71 coaches last season). We delivered quality race events (Cookie Race, CALFOREX Cup and Alberta Cup) and got back to the family side of things with social-focused events.

Some highlights from the AGM include:

  • Continued strong membership and program participation numbers
  • Continued stable financial position
  • Increased focus on health, safety and risk management policies, and best practices and regulatory responsiveness
  • Decision to hire a full-time General Manager on a one year contract to address continuity and existing gaps in filling and sustaining lead volunteer positions

Of her term, Michelle Deacon says: “It has been an honour to work with a team of committed, talented and professional individuals that made up the past year’s board. These folks demonstrate a true passion for the success of our Club and have tirelessly offered up their time and energy to see the Club thrive. Thank you all for your service.”

“Beyond operational details, were the constant reminders of what it is really all about: our fabulous community training, recreating, volunteering, coaching, smiling, and having fun together.”
