New Program- Introduction to Competition

Foothills Nordic Ski Club is EXCITED to offer a new program tailored to teens who are new to the sport and want to learn to compete.  Foothills Friends! Please spread the word!  Let anyone who might be interested  know about the program and where to find details.

Introduction to Competition (I2C) is a late entry competitive racing program for beginner teenagers with the goal that participants will join our racing program (T1, T2 or LC) in 1-2 years. Head coach Eric Groeneveld says “This program will engage new XC athletes in a fun environment and will expose them to high quality coaching that focuses on technique and skill development. I have no doubt that athletes participating in the I2C program will have the skills to integrate into our T1, T2 and LC programs in the future”.

Athletes will learn the basics of off season training through activities including: roller skiing, hiking, running, ski striding, strength training, and balance/agility. On snow, athletes will learn classic and skate skiing techniques. The development of aerobic fitness will be emphasized as well as having fun in a social environment. Skiers are encouraged to participate in competition and will be able to race many times during the season. Participants who have participated in other sports and are committed to attending practices will have the best success in this program.
