Biathlon Canada recently announced their U20 National Development Team, a new initiative that increases support and opportunity from what was formally known as the Shooting Stars Program. The team of 26 includes nine athletes from Foothills Nordic!
Biathlon Canada is formally establishing their Next Generation Programs with the creation of the U20 and U24 National Development Teams, setting the parameters for how athletes can best transition from club programs successfully to National teams. They hope this endeavor will increase the pool of mature biathletes and improve the overall performance level in the country.
Leadership of this program will be delivered by NextGen Program Director Roddy Ward who recently stepped down as the Women’s National Team Coach and High Performance Director to work with developing athletes and their coaches.
The U20 team is a camp-based program that will leverage both Junior IBU Tours and World Junior/Youth Championships to provide appropriate training and competition opportunities for up and coming athletes, while keeping program leadership consistent through the training and competitive season.
A hearty CONGRATULATIONS to the Nine Foothills Nordic Athletes who were Selected for the Biathlon Canada U20 National Development Team:
