PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Fall/Winter Ski Fitness is an adult program aimed at intermediate/advanced skiers, and coached by passionate and qualified Masters athletes/instructors. The program is capped at 18 participants. Organized workouts focus on fitness and improving ski technique in both the classic and skate techniques, usually alternating from one week to the next. Is this the right class for you? You should have a decent base fitness level (regular exercise multiple times per week for a minimum of one hour at a time), should be able to confidently step in and out of tracks, snowplow brake, stop and steer. You should be familiar with all the main classic and skate skills. The program will include : ski-specific strength; balance, agility and movement; fitness; and technique components. You will learn new drills to improve your skiing, working on both classic and skate technique, and perform interval workouts to improve fitness and aerobic capacity for cross country skiing. This program starts with dryland training in mid-September. On-snow sessions begin as soon as possible and are primarily held at Confederation Park Golf Course in Calgary. West Bragg Creek and Canmore Nordic Centre may be used as backup locations when ski conditions in Calgary are poor.
