Welcome to the 2017/18 Foothills Nordic Ski Club Season!
From FNSC President, Michelle Deacon
On June 20, 2017, Foothills Nordic Ski Club held its AGM, where club volunteers and coaches shared highlights from the past year and members elected a new executive committee. The meeting highlighted what I think Foothills is known for: inclusion, fun and excellence and this year was no exception.
- The club is in excellent financial position.
- Our full slate of biathlon and cross-country youth and adult programs have strong registration numbers.
- Volunteers, coaches and athletes were recognized with provincial and national awards for their contributions and performance.
- In addition to strong Canadian Biathlon Championship and XC Ski National results, we made significant community impacts – brining Ski at School to approximately 1000 elementary school students and providing ski facilities within the City of Calgary, to the benefit of all Calgarians.
To maintain the excellence that Foothills has come to be known for we need to set our sights on the finish line and address the long-term sustainability of the club. Where are we today, where do we want to go and how will we get there?
Just as an athlete cannot reach the podium alone, nor can one executive member or a small group of individuals bring about change – it is the collective will and energy, support and involvement of many that will see us to the finish. And you are a part of this collective.
As first steps toward long-term sustainability the club has hired a Club Coordinator (welcome Judy Aitken) to support the executive and coaches and offer her expertise. The incoming executive will also build out committees – extending knowledge sharing and tasks among more members.
I am inviting you to be a part of this exciting year. Get involved, share your skills and ensure the longevity of our club!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our outgoing executive members and acknowledge their significant contribution to FNSC’s success. Without the ongoing commitment of dedicated volunteers our large club could not operate as it does.
I hope you share my excitement about our great club and join me and the new executive in ensuring the continued excellence that Foothills has come to be known for!
