Notice to all Foothills Nordic Ski Club (FNSC) Members:

Winsport has advised FNSC that they will be developing and operating a tube park at Canada Olympic Park (COP) for the upcoming 2016-2017 ski season. The tube park will have a substantial negative impact on the current Nordic trail system.

FNSC has been working with Winsport to find alternate COP terrain for us to hold our programs on and to minimize the impact of their proposed changes on our programs.

We have been assured by Winsport that the existing air rifle biathlon range at COP will be available for this coming season. As the only air rifle range in or near Calgary, the COP range is critical for the development of young biathletes. Nathan Smith, 2015 Alberta Male Athlete of the Year, began his biathlon career with Foothills Nordic Ski Club in Calgary and we want to ensure that this opportunity continues to be available to all Calgarians.

FNSC believes that appropriate solutions can be found and we are not currently planning on reducing our cross country or biathlon programming as a result of Winsport’s announcement.

We will keep the membership informed as more information becomes available.
